Special Olympics is designed to help bring all persons with developmental disabilties into the larger society under conditions where by they are accepted, respected and given the chance to become useful and productive citizens.  Washington Special Olympics provides year round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with developmental disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families and other Special Olympic athletes and the community.

Persons with developmental disabilities, regardless ability level, may participate in all Special Olympic sports.  Individuals are eligible for training and competition at age eight.
